Oxford Dynamics, the Harwell-based artificial intelligence company, has been selected as one of five finalists in Rolls-Royce SMR's iX Challenge, chosen from more than 40 organisations that entered. Founded in 2020 and based at the Harwell Campus in Didcot, Oxford Dynamics counts BAE Systems among its strategic investors.
The company demonstrated its autonomous inspection robotics, linked to AVIS™, its agentic AI platform, at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre's Factory 2050 in Sheffield on 20 and 21 August, alongside fellow finalists Amentum, Oxford Robotics Institute, Ross Robotics and the UK Atomic Energy Authority.
The challenge, delivered with support from Innovate UK Business Connect, is helping Rolls-Royce SMR shape the future of automated inspection across its fleet of factory-built nuclear power plants. Rolls-Royce SMR said the technologies were assessed for their potential to enhance safety, efficiency and data collection in a highly regulated operating environment, and that it would continue evaluating the finalists, with an update on the next stage expected in the coming months.
Oxford Dynamics said it was proud to be part of the process and was looking forward to the next phase of evaluation.
