The green light has been given to Bicester Motion, the 444-acre future mobility estate, for its plans to redevelop Buildings 146/147 which stand at the gateway to the Technical Site, to provide a landmark HQ workspace designed for motorsport and automotive mobility led brands.
Originally constructed in 1926, the former Station Offices at the front connected to the Operations Block at the rear, are neo-Georgian with red brickwork and slate roof buildings which were typical of British military and civic architecture. They served as key operational and administrative functions.
The plans have been approved by Cherwell District Council for the sensitive restoration of the building with the introduction of a contemporary extension to the building’s rear which together will total 9,536 sq ft (886 sq m).
It will be restored to the highest standards, respectful of its heritage and offering a distinctive contemporary office use. The striking original façade will be preserved, while carefully curated industrial materials and contemporary finishes will combine heritage and innovation to deliver a distinctive workplace.
As with the restoration of the wider Bicester Motion Technical Site, industrial materials and features will be used to complement the building’s classical characteristics.
Daniel Geoghegan, Chief Executive Officer at Bicester Motion, said: “This year we are proud to be celebrating the Technical Site’s centenary which includes the former Station Offices. Cherwell District Council’s approval of our plans to renovate and redevelop Buildings 146/147 marks a significant step towards a lasting future for this heritage asset. This project will respectfully maintain the original exterior as the gateway to our estate while enhancing the commercial space we have available.
“As we continue to draw in a vibrant community of innovative automotive and aviation brands, this project will ensure we continue to offer flexible, prominent and outstanding contemporary HQ spaces to help them discover and grow. My thanks go to our property team and our expert consultants for their work on this project.”
